Potentially stupid question re: podcasts

So I found a podcast I'd like to listen to, it has 80 episodes or so but only the latest 20 or so are showing up in the RSS feed. I understand that it isn't unusual for creators to limit their RSS feeds in such a manner but most of my chosen ones to date either don't or don't have enough episodes th...

Re: Trump

Severe financial penalties should be applied on those individuals who refuse to comply with official subpoenas, as is normal in such cases.. Each of them should be publicly censured for their actions, and where necessary they should be barred from holding public office in future.. Chelsea Manning w...

Re: Trump

I think it's utterly fascinating that some people continue to argue with a straight face that there's anything irregular about the inquiry, that the whistleblower lacks credibility, is partisan, or isn't a first-hand witness, etc. The partial call record that the White House released alone is argua...

Re: Brexit

And then the whole issue of Ireland. I've not heard of many options there that avoids much in the way of reigniting conflict. Yep, it's basically impossible for Brexit and the GFA to legally co-exist. The best way to avoid reigniting The Troubles is to basically treat the whole of Ireland as part o...

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread

So you're basically saying we should treat diplomats the same as people who are in the army or similar high risk jobs? I don't see that working terribly well, to be honest. It's admittedly anecdotal but I kind thought this happened anyway, that senior diplomats were a live to work not work to live ...

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread

To keep the diplomat's family from being used as leverage by the host government. I guess that makes sense, but I rather think that a better solution to that one is to employ people who don't have familiarises, or are prepared to be apart for them for the sake of their work. . . . rather than have ...

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread

I can understand the reasons why diplomats are granted such partial exemptions from the law, with incidents such as this being the regrettable cost to be weighed against those reasons.
However, I entirely fail to see why such special treatment should be extended to the diplomats family.

Re: Trump

Almost simultaneously his daughter tweets the following: "Thank you Prime Minister Erdogan for joining us yesterday to celebrate the launch of #TrumpTowers Istanbul!" Bish you need to get your eyes tested and look at dates, that Ivanka post was made by her on 20 April 2012 not yesterday. But once a...

Re: Trump

I don't disagree with anything you have written there, however, I still think that it was an the glaring flaw in Obama to strengthening the power of the executive (although I understand his reasons for doing so) was that that power would be inherited by his successors to force through more malign po...

Re: Trump

You know, there's one thing that republicans are being awfully short sighted on when it comes to Trump. Let's pretend for a minute that Trump is able to get away with everything he's doing. He's invincible, above the law, etc. etc., republicans are not always going to have a president in the oval o...

Re: Trump

That actually gets brought up a lot. Arguing over the electoral college is moot. To say that Trump lost is just a goalpost that has been moved. Everyone involved in a presidential campaign knows the rules to win it because they are as old as America. You are correct that clinton did win the popular...

Re: Trump

Don't you folks in the UK run 2 elections? The first being between all candidates and providing one doesn't win more than 50% of the vote, a 2nd election with a runoff between the top two? I really think that's the system we need for presidential elections at the very least. This sounds a bit like ...

Re: Trump

So it's not that a lot of people were secretly voting for Trump - it's that the electoral college misrepresented the popular vote. Now, I kinda get why it's there, the US being a federation of states and all - it isn't entirely unlike the EU. Its worth pointing out that one of the primary reasons f...

Re: Brexit

I didn't listen to the whole thing, but the random segments I did listen to were utterly depressing. Not, I hasten to add, because of the opinions expressed, but because of the utter inability of those expressing them to provide any coherent basis in evidence or fact for those opinions, or indeed a...

Re: Brexit

So apparently the governments latest "solution" for the Irish border is to set up what looks and sounds a lot like a DMZ. At the very least it will turn one border into three. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-49887114 I'd say they're absolutely off their rocker but I suspect wha...

His privileged background obviously helped with his ambition, but it had nothing to do with his motivation for using Brexit as the means to achieve it. Pretty much the only real correlation between his privilege and his willingness to back the leave campaign, is that he and those around him will be...

Re: Brexit

Personally I think the first thing Broken Boris should do tomorrow after parliament reconvenes, is quit. He has shown he cannot do the job of Prime Minister, that he cannot be trusted to do the job of Prime Minister. He has been shown to have lied to Parliament, to the Queen but most importantly he...
